Whole grain is a healthy alternative to refined grains
Actually, whole grains are not a healthy alternative to anything, merely less detrimental than refined grains. The one redeeming factor of whole grains is the higher amount of fiber that passes through our digestive system and help feed the beneficial bacteria in your colon.
Switching from refined grains to whole grains is like switching to filtered cigarettes. It’s still harmful tobacco. You can get your fiber elsewhere (beans, nuts, berries, legumes), without the main drawbacks of grain; carbs and gluten.
Your body processes carbs just like sugar. It increases blood sugar levels, stressing your body. Eating whole grain versions of bread, pasta, and rice may increase fiber contents, but sometimes only marginally, while carbs remain the same or higher.
There are no health benefits of gluten at all. It can, however, cause digestive issues such as bloating, gas, and constipation, as well as abdominal pain. Gluten can also cause allergies, sensitivities, and autoimmune reactions.
Most food guidelines recommend that carbohydrates make up an irresponsible 55% of a person’s daily calorie intake. This is 500g of carbs daily based on the average American consuming 3,600 calories each day, still leaving people hungry.
